Material Guide For Teenage Swimwear Uk

Material Guide For Teenage Swimwear Uk

There are so many options to choose from when you’re looking to buy teenage swimwear in the UK.

It can be a difficult choice to make. Teenagers swimwear  may start to get more conscious of their bodies than when they were kids. For serious swimmers, the level of competition intensifies and an excellent swimsuit can make the difference between 1st and 2nd place.

In terms of material, there are three main types to consider.

Depends on what you’re buying for. Is it serious laps and training sessions and competitions? Or is it for more casual wear?

It’s a good idea to check out what material the swim suit is made of before buying it. This will help you get the optimal swimsuit and get the maximum value for money.

Material considerations

Before getting into the three types of material, you first have to consider a couple of things in order to get the best value for money.

  • How often is the swimsuit being used? Do you need something durable and long lasting? Do you need to withstand chlorinated water several times a week?
  • The other consideration is how long the swimsuit will be used for. An older teenager who is unlikely to grow by much can purchase a swimsuit that will last for years. On the other hand, a thirteen-year-old who is due for a growth spurt may only be wearing the swimsuit for a period of a few months.

Here are the three main types of materials:

Polyester/PBT

Polyester and PBT swimsuits will last longer than those that are made from lycra. Both shape and colour tends to hold up much better. For teenagers that are in the pool regularly, a PBT swimsuit could be ideal for them.

Lycra (Spandex)

Lycra has been the most commonly utilized swimsuit material since Speedo began using it over three decades ago.

Swimmers with a preference for lycra talk about its greater comfort and softer feel than polyester swimsuits. It stretches very naturally and tends to fit the body better.

The only drawback is that lycra suits don’t tend to last as long as other materials. For swimmers that are in the pool every day and need something to last, this could pose a problem.

Xtra Life Lycra

If you want the best of both worlds then Xtra Life Lycra gives the swimsuit a bit of extra life than regular lycra. This is due to a treatment that allows the fabric to hold its shape and delay fading.
